About Google My Business

Google My Business is a free and simple tool for businesses to manage their appearance on one of the world’s most popular search engines: Google. With a Google My Business account, you can not only get a business listing but also use your account to connect with customers and find leads across Google Search and Maps.

A Google My Business account will allow you to curate reviews for your product/service, provide essential information such as opening hours, your address, or contact information, and also allow you to promote company events and news, and share photos of your location and team.

Regularly posting to Google My Business is a great way to keep your audience and customers engaged with your business and aware of any goings-on.

We're allowing our customers to publish two types of Google My Business posts; the 'What's New' post type, and the 'Events' post type. Both types are great for spreading the word about upcoming news and events. You'll also be able to add a button to each post, encouraging your audience to take action on your content.

The two types of Google My Business posts you can publish through ContentCal

The ‘What’s new’ post type

This post type allows you to post an update on your Google My Business account. This post could share some new content of yours, perhaps a blog, or just give an update on the company or the team. This post type will stay on your account for 7 days before automatically removing itself.

This is the most common type of Google My Business post and is a great way to keep your audience up to date and engaging with your business. You can even add a button to your post, allowing you to give your audience a specific Call to Action.

How to create a ‘What’s new’ post in ContentCal

  1. Select the ‘Add new post’ button or hover anywhere over the Calendar to add a new post.
  2. Select the channel for Google My Business.
  3. Choose your ‘Post type’ and select ‘What’s New’.
  4. Enter your post copy, choose a Publish Date / Publish Time, attach any media, and add a Category Tag, if you wish.
  5. Choose whether you’d like to add a button to your post, or not - button choices include Book, Order Online, Buy, Learn more, or Sign up.
  6. Select the ‘Add post’ button to save your Draft.

The ‘Event’ post type

The ‘Event’ post is exactly as it sounds. This post type will allow you to spread the word on any upcoming events that your business is hosting or participating in.

The real benefit of this post type is that it allows you to clearly enter a start time/date and an end time/date so your audience knows exactly when the event is taking place. Just like the ‘What’s new’ post type, they’ll also be able to click a button in your post and be brought directly to the desired URL to RSVP their attendance or view any extra info.
