It’s heartbreaking to think that you could spend hours working on one piece of content that never gets seen by your audience simply because you weren’t aware of the best times to post on your social media platforms.

We all know that social media is a fantastic place to amplify your business and show off exciting new content. But if you’re looking to make the biggest possible impact on your audience then you need to be posting at the optimum times.

The best times to post on social media for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

The best time to post on Facebook

With an astonishing 1.4 billion global users, Facebook is undoubtedly the most popular of all social media channels and the favourite for social media marketers. Data has shown that engagement rates consistently peak near midday on weekdays, with Wednesday and Thursday generating the highest figures.

  • The best day overall to post on Facebook is Thursday
  • In general, the best times to post on social media in relation to Facebook are between Monday and Thursday 10am - 3pm
  • The poorest time to post content on Facebook would be on the weekends between 8am - 8pm (but especially poor on Saturday)

Generally speaking, people will be online and more likely to engage with your content while on their lunch break and less time to engage when they are out and about socialising. best times to post on social media 2

The best time to post on Twitter

Internet Live Stats has recorded that every second around 6,000 tweets are published on Twitter. This corresponds to over 350,000 tweets sent per minute, 500 million tweets per day, and around 200 billion tweets per year.

With such a huge volume of tweets sent every minute, marketers have to be smart about how and when to reach their desired audience. But despite this, brands can still thrive. Twitter is well-known for being the best platform for addressing things in real time so questions or concerns from customers can be answered directly in an instant, creating a better brand experience.

Research shows that in direct contrast with Facebook, activity doesn’t stop at the weekend. In fact, Saturday afternoons are a very popular time to post, although Sunday mornings still receive the least amount of activity. With a resounding success rate, the best time to post on Twitter is between 9am to 10am on Friday, although any day between 10am to 12 noon is still a safe time to post.

The best time to post on Instagram

As the home of visual content, more and more businesses are using Instagram as a social media marketing tool to demonstrate their products. However, finding the perfect time to post on Instagram is a particularly challenging affair. For a network that is continuously updating, it’s harder for businesses to appear organically and research has demonstrated a variety of results.

That said, there have been some very interesting and unusual trends when it comes to Instagram posting. For instance, some of the highest recorded engagement was found to be very early in the morning at around 5am – most likely from those who like to browse their phones in bed before getting up for work. Other high engagement times were found to be during the middle of the day on weekdays, with users under the age of 25 checking their feed for approximately 30 minutes during their lunch break.

Again, and contrary to Facebook, Instagram engagement at the weekend is still at an altogether high. The millennial culture of posting food pictures and documenting days out means that people are on their on their phones fairly consistently throughout the day. best times to post on social media 3

While it’s crucial to consider the above information when it comes to finding the best times to post on social media platforms, the most effective way to post for your business is to analyse the data for your own social media channels. Take note of your engagement levels and whether there are any patterns in regards to posting times, carry out research to find out when your own audience is online, and delve into your analytics to work out what times of day your channels receive the most visits.
