Facebook is removing restrictions on text in Ad images

🤔 What happened?

According to reports, Facebook is removing its restrictions on ads which include more than 20% text in the main image.

💡 My take

Facebook is removing the restriction to require 20% of text in ads, opening up a lot of creative freedom around ads that we've never had before.

Instagram Reels can now be up to 30 seconds long

🤔 What happened?

Instagram Reels can now be double in length, get a 10-second timer, and also become easier to edit on your phone.

💡 My take

Instagram have made some updates to Reels which allows you to create longer Reels than before. You can now create Reels that are up to 30 seconds long, as well as make use of some improved editing tools. The gaps that you've typically seen in features between Reels and TikTok is going to be closing up really quickly. Expect to see more features coming very soon.

Pinterest introduces Story Pins and other Creator features

🤔 What happened?

Pinterest announced a few updates for creators, including Story Pins in beta, a new creator profile, updated analytics, and more.

💡 My take

There's some big updates at Pinterest right now; there's new profiles making it easier for people to get in touch with creators or businesses, there's a new platform for engagement to make it easier to manage comments on Pins, and, there's also new analytics tools telling you new insights on what's happening with your pins and who's re-pinning them. Fourthly, and most importantly, there's a new Stories format on Pinterest too. It looks exactly the same as it does on every other platform (we have Snapchat to thank for the Stories format that's been replicated by every social media network now) but it does go to show the amount of investment going into Pinterest. If you're not on it already, I encourage you to go and check it out.

LinkedIn rolls out major redesign and Stories for all

🤔 What happened?

LinkedIn is rolling out its first major redesign in the last five years and giving all members access to LinkedIn Stories. Dark mode is coming soon.

💡 My take

As with Pinterest, there's some big updates and I'll bundle them all together. Firstly, there's a new interface that's rolling out for everyone. It's starting in the US and it will be rolling out slowly. I don't have access to it yet, but you might well do.

Also from LinkedIn, they're rolling out the Stories format. We all know that this has been ongoing for most of 2020, but it's now available in the US and it soon to be rolling out to everyone. I don't know when it'll be coming to the UK but do let us know if you have access to Stories already.

Another cool move from LinkedIn; they've integrated with Zoom so you can now start video chats directly from your DM message threads. I'm a big fan of that one as an update.
