Andy's Round-Up: LinkedIn Events for all Pages and a new Snapchat Lens Experience

LinkedIn Events is now available to all pages

🤔 What happened?

With thousands of industry events being canceled amid the COVID-19 lockdowns, this could be helpful for those looking for another way to connect, and promote replacement meet-ups, live-streams or webinars to their brand followers.

💡 My take

LinkedIn Events is now available for all company pages. It was previously only available for a select number of pages. It's a fantastic initiative and a great way for you to gain traction from your community for your events (albeit online ones a the moment). Nonetheless, it's been showing really good up-take on LinkedIn. It's a wonderful way to raise awareness and promote your events and it's available to everyone as of right now. I'd suggest giving it a go as soon as you can.

TikTok pledges $250M in COVID-19 relief efforts and $125M in ad credits

🤔 What happened?

Short-form video app TikTok announced that it’s committing more than $250 million to support front-line workers, educators and local communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as an additional $125 million in advertising credits to public health organizations and businesses looking to rebuild.

💡 My take

We all know that TikTok is exploding as a platform. They've now announced $125m in advertising credits will go towards public health organizations and businesses looking to rebuild so it looks like we're seeing more and more brands transitioning over to TikTok. TikTok is really growing at a time like this because the short, snackable entertainment is the escape from reality that so many of us are craving right now.

Snapchat Launches New Lens Experience

🤔 What happened?

As part of the continued expansion of its COVID-19 awareness efforts, Snapchat has this week launched a new Lens experience which uses Snap's advancing image recognition system to trigger a new World Health Organization visual when you scan in a currency note from your region.

💡 My take

Snapchat have launched some new augmented reality features. You can see the World Health Organization making really good use of these so if you're feeling advanced in terms of your creativity, that's definitely one to check out and also one to keep an eye on for future new tools around how you can use augmented reality for marketing purposes. While the use of augmented reality is still very much advanced it has a lower barrier of entry somewhat so it's good to get on this now.

WhatsApp limits message forwarding to one chat at a time

🤔 What happened?

In an effort to fight misinformation, WhatsApp is further limiting the number of people you can forward viral messages to.

💡 My take

WhatsApp have limited the amount of times that you can forward any message to just the once. This is something that we saw from last week and it's another great way that they're limiting the spread of misinformation. It's really nice to see how social media networks are stepping up to facilitate events and the growing of communities helping people through advertising credits. We saw Google and Facebook do this, and now TikTok is joining in. Social channels are also doing their part to limit the spread of misinformation in terms of making sure there is a good fact checking in place and limiting the spread of misinformation with new developments.
