Agorapulse compared to ContentCal

Great marketing tools save time, make managing tasks easier and help to execute and improve your content marketing strategy. But, with so many options on the market it can be challenging to find the right one for you.
We've taken a look at two of the best, ContentCal and Agorapulse to see how they compare.
Agorapulse, created by two friends, initially started out in 2001 as Affinitiz, “a community-oriented B2C platform, focusing on family, friends, associations, alumni, and passions”. Fast-forward to 2011 and Agorapulse as we know it today started to take shape. Growing year on year, it’s now one of the most popular social media publishing tools out there, with a host of dedicated customers.

Launched by a social media marketing agency in 2014, the team behind ContentCal identified an opportunity in the current offering of social media publishing tools, to improve strategies, workflows, and overall social media management for freelancers, agencies, and businesses. In 2016, ContentCal was relaunched as the platform we know today and taken to market. A few years on, ContentCal has rave reviews and an ever-growing client base.
Users can choose from a selection of plans: Pro, Company, Premium, and Enterprise.
Engage is Agorapulse’s version of a shared inbox, which combines engagements from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube, in chronological order. As well as organic responses, users can also see paid post engagements all in the one place.
Users can reply, review, assign, or label messages and even set up automated moderation rules to simplify the process. Inbox filters, saved replies, bulk actions, and translations and assignments streamline the process of responding to followers.
The Publish tool allows users to schedule, queue, categorize, bulk upload, and delegate posts across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn. Posts can be scheduled once, or there are options to ‘Republish regularly’ and ‘Schedule again’ to reuse evergreen content. Users can also opt for the 'Assign' feature to seek approval from a manager or client.
Agorapulse’s social listening tool, 'Listen', allows users to get a handle on what’s being said about their business. Tweak parameters, add locations and specify languages, and save searches for ease. At this point, users can respond to something they’ve seen directly, or assign it to a team member.
Whole teams can get in on the action with the 'Collaborate' feature. Define roles for teammates, set permissions, get real-time collision detection and see exactly who’s done what, and when.
One of the most popular Agorapulse features is its analytics, which provide easy to read, downloadable reports to update teams or clients with Measure/ Report. Topline stats, brand awareness scores, and top content and assets, like reactions and user activity, can also be viewed. Users can dive into strategy by finding out the best times to post and which types of posts work best, along with team performance and competitor analysis.
It's possble to learn more about an audience with the built-in Agorapulse CRM. This identifies top fans, categorizies and labels audiences and reviews previous interactions, all in one go.
The Shared Calendar, designed for agencies, lets clients see content without being able to edit it. They can only accept, reject or give feedback on the post, removing the need for numerous spreadsheets. One downside is that only one free Shared Calendar comes with the plan - additional calendars require an add-on purchase.
ContentCal has a visual calendar layout, clearly displaying all posts. Adding accounts, users and assigning user permissions is simple, but the onboarding team is there to help if needed, alongside a vast array of available information in the help center guides.
Users can publish to most social media networks with ContentCal, due to its Zapier integration, setting it apart from its competitors. Clicking on the Calendar allows users to create a post, select profiles, add images, add category tags, set publish times and dates, and use any saved hashtags. Posts can then be sent for approval if needed. Reusing evergreen content is really easy and templates can be created to save additional time.
ContentCal is a drag and drop content marketing tool, designed to help marketers reorganize content quickly when calendars require a re-shuffle. The color-coded publish states become ingrained in your brain, and the option to reuse posts is ideal for evergreen content.
The Content Hub is a library where all previous posts are stored, as well as anything that has been bookmarked for future posts. All drafts can be saved here along with notes for ideas, which can be filtered for efficient searching.
ContentCal Engage brings multiple, social media inboxes together in a single, convenient place. Users can reply to comments, mentions, DMs, and more. Entire message history with a customer/prospect can be viewed here and there is an option to find out more about who that person is, their follower count, interests, and location. Messages can also be assigned to different team members, keeping response times low.
The Articles feature is a home for blog posts, newsletters, press releases and more, meaning there are fewer places to visit to find what's needed.
The Contributions feature opens up marketing activity to everyone in the business, encouraging a collaborative workforce, striving towards the same goals, helping employees feel valued and motivated.
All the best marketing tools offer something unique. ContentCal allows for department wide organization of marketing assets and activity within the platform. The Zapier integrations, connects ContentCal to thousands of apps, including Google Docs, Trello, and Slack, making it the ultimate one-stop-shop for all content planning and scheduling.
ContentCal Analytics allows users to see top-performing content, relevant metrics and learn how to create better content for brands or clients.
Agorapulse is easy to use and has a great support team ready to guide users through the setup process.

Agorapulse’s reports are some of the most impressive on the market, with interesting data for clients and managers. There are also add on Power Reports to provide even more in-depth reporting capabilities.
Agorapulse’s support team is eager and ready to help, and reviewers comment on its brilliant customer service.
Agorapulse’s social listening tool stays on the pulse of brand sentiments and finds new people to interact with and repost.
The Shared Calendar is a good way to send content to clients without fear that something will get deleted or edited. However, this add-on feature can become expensive when used for multiple clients.
One thing that crops up time and time again is the lack of a draft feature makes it difficult to store ideas.
One thing that would have been great to see in this Agorapulse review is an assets library. Want to easily find that amazing post that you forgot to mark as evergreen? You’ll have to scroll back through your feed, as there’s no content library to be found.
Some reviewers comment that the user experience of the mobile app could do with some improvements, such as simplifying the process to engage with followers while on-the-move.
As great as Agorapulse’s offering is, its selection of platforms is limited to five of the biggest, which doesn’t include Pinterest. If Pinterest is big for your brand, you’ll still be scheduling manually.
While Agorapulse does integrate Bit.ly, there aren’t many other options to bring existing ways of working into the fold, meaning separate tools will still be needed
Agorapulse is pricey, and it’s aimed at larger teams with bigger budgets to spend. If you’re a freelancer, small agency, or business, it may be out of reach for you.
ContentCal is remarkably simple to use and balances the visual aspect of planning content, with many other different types of content.
